Chipboard Screws

As the name suggests, these screws can be used when doing general DIY work with chipboard and other softer types of woods.

Unlike the Cut screws, they do not have the Type 17 cutting point and, therefore, require pilot holes, drilled 2mm smaller than the size of screw used. A Pozi screwdriver bit is then required to drive the screws home, but care must be taken as they have a tendency to slip and strip.

These screws are available in 2 finishes, namely zinc plated and yellow passivation corrosion resistant coating.

Types Available

Smooth shank
Yellow Passivated

Used when fixing wood to wood. The smooth shank part of the screw allows it to spin in the top piece of wood and at the same time pull the bottom piece tightly against the top piece, thus leaving no gap between the two. The smooth shank also prevents the screw head from pulling into the top piece of wood while it is driven into the bottom piece.

Full thread
Yellow Passivated

Used when fixing metal to wood. Unlike smooth shank screws, when driving in full thread screws, the top material cannot move along the shank. Instead, it is held in place by the threads.

Full Thread
Zinc plated

Perfect for fastening hinges to kitchen cupboards and doors as the zinc plating helps the screw blend in with the hinge.
